Eric Hoffer

Eric Hoffer (1902-83) was an American longshoreman (havnearbejder) who was also a philosopher and the author of essays and books discussing social issues. Hoffer’s first book The True Believer from 1951 deals with mass movements and is considered a classic on this theme. The Ordeal of Change from 1976 is about the role of the individual in drastic social changes. He was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Reagan in 1983.
